This metadata diagram aims to support programmatic access to data; with these metadata terms and linked relations, the API user can see what metadata options are available. There are dynamic metadata on the Data Hub at both the dataset and resource levels. This means that some metadata will trigger additional metadata. For example, if you choose "Lab Experimental" Data Source at the dataset, an additional field, "Measurement Types" will appear.

What is metadata? One challenge in collecting and maintaining experimental data is curating experimental parameters and conditions to adequately provide the required information to reproduce the experiment and enable search, filter, and query used for analysis and scientific discovery. Those data that describe parameters and conditions of experimental data are called metadata.
